Europe Honeymoon Packages

Ever take an escourted train trip through Europe using the Vacations By Rail company?

We are planning a trip to Europe this summer with two children, ages 12 and 8, and it was recommended that we take a tour offered by a company called "Vacations By Rail". The tour that looks like a good fit is called "Contrasts of Europe" (http://www.vacationsbyrail.com/europe/train_tours/contrasts_of_europe/index.html). Anyone ever take it? If so, what are your thoughts? The company that actually runs the tours is Trafalgar Tours.

  1. I haven't done this tour, but I have lived in northern Italy for the last 10 years and travel extensively by train including all of these routes except London - Paris at one time or another. This looks like a nice tour and Trafalgar is a reputable tour supplier. My preference is for independent travel because I prefer the flexibility to spend more time and see things that catch my attention somewhere rather than being tied to a specific schedule. However, that way you don't have someone there to explain what you're seeing or to answer questions. You would also have to do all the bookings yourself. The trains are a nice way to travel. Generally, you start and end in the cities themselves and don't have to spend extra time traveling to/from airports, checking in, getting through security, waiting for baggage, and you don't have to be at the station an hour or two early. This certainly hits a number of the major tourist spots and will give you a pretty good overview of each. Have a great time!
